Nick Fury - Germany Tour 2014 Pre-Show Commission
German fans ask me two things more often than other fans: Steampunk characters and male characters. Normally I’ll get one male character request out of ten commission requests on a good day. So for the German tour I ended up doing four male characters out of a total of twenty one requests. Not too bad.
Wolverine And The X-Men #1 Cover Process
This is a look at my process on how I draw a cover. First comes a rough sketch based on the ideas passed back and forth between the creative team. Most of the time I do these sketches digitally now. After approval I move on to a rough layout which I again do digitally nowadays. This stage is the bones of the actual image. Even though it might seem rough, it has all the information I need to move on. Finally I move on to actual paper where I lightbox the layout to rough pencils which I then ink and finalize. The image is then scanned and passed on to the colourist, who in this case is the mega-talented Marte Gracia.
The book is available in stores and digitally right now. Get it!
Here are a few pages as an advanced first look into the second issue of Wolverine And The X-Men. You can see the full preview with a variant cover by Art Adams right here.
Preview: Wolverine And The X-Men #1
More of a first look rather than an actual preview. Also, you can see the correct colours for the double page spread here.
Wolverine & The X-Men Sketch Studies
Copic markers on Moleskine sketchbook
After I was offered the gig by Marvel and we were in the early stages talking with Jason I thought it would be a good idea to warm up to some of the more important characters in the book. So I ended up with these in my sketchbook.
Wolverine And The X-Men #3 Cover.
Drawn by me and coloured by Jordie Bellaire. The concept for this came from Jason Latour. For the image on the ground I sketched the characters digitally which I later transformed into perspective. The sketch was then lightboxed on to the original art board where I completed the image.
Apparently I’ve made it into yet another “to watch” list in 2014. If this keeps up I might start believing in it myself. Thank you Crave Online.
